    Subcommittee Hears Testimony on Development Adjacent to Transmitter Park

    Zoning Subcommittee heard testimony on proposed eleven-story tower to abut WNYC Transmitter Park in Brooklyn’s Greenpoint neighborhood. On May 16, 2017, the City Council’s Zoning Subcommittee heard testimony regarding an application submitted by Kent/Greenpoint, LLC, to develop an eleven-story mixed-use building in Brooklyn’s Greenpoint neighborhood. The applicant sought to amend bulk regulations related to the location of legal windows, landscaping requirements for off-street parking and minimum street wall heights in order to orientate the massing of the proposed building towards Transmitter Park.     Public Review Underway for East Harlem Initiative

    The proposal would create new affordable housing, strengthen the neighborhood as a major transit hub and job center, and preserve neighborhood character in existing mid-scale residential areas. On April 24, 2017, the Department of City Planning began the public review process for its proposal to rezone Manhattan’s East Harlem neighborhood. The East Harlem Initiative would invest in the improvement of the neighborhood by adding new affordable housing, creating opportunities for economic development, planning for infrastructure needs, preserving neighborhood character, and establishing urban design controls. The rezoning proposal is one component of a larger neighborhood study as a part of the Mayor Bill de Blasio’s Housing New York. City Planning expects the rezoning efforts to create 122,000 square feet of stores and restaurants, and 275,000 square feet of office and industrial space over the next 10 years. (more…)

    Transmitter Park in Greenpoint to Get 11-Story Mixed-Use Building Adjacent

    Planning Commission approved bulk regulation amendment for an eleven-story building in Greenpoint, Brooklyn. On April 26, 2017, the City Planning Commission issued a favorable report on an application submitted by Kent/Greenpoint, LLC, to develop an eleven-story mixed-use building in Brooklyn’s Greenpoint neighborhood. The applicant sought to amend bulk regulations related to the location of legal windows, landscaping requirements for off-street parking and minimum street wall heights in order to orientate the massing of the proposed building towards Transmitter Park.     Planning Commission Okays 206 New Affordable Units in Unionport

    The City Planning Commission approved the construction two new joined buildings to contain 206 affordable units in the Unionport neighborhood of the Bronx. On April 5, 2017, the City Planning Commission issued a favorable report on an application from Westchester Mews LLC. The project would result in a new mixed-use development at 2044 Westchester Avenue and 2035 Newbold Avenue in the Bronx’s Unionport neighborhood. The applicant proposed amending the zoning map and zoning text to facilitate the construction of two buildings to contain approximately 206 dwelling units and commercial and community facility space.     True Holy Church to Build New Facilities with 67 Affordable Units Atop

    The City Planning Commission approved a new ten-story building to contain 67 affordable units and a new house of worship for the True Holy Church. On April 5, 2017, the City Planning Commission voted to approve an application from the developer Atlantic East Affiliates LLC, an affiliate of the Ridgewood Bushwick Senior Citizens Council, to rezone 1860 Eastern Parkway in Brooklyn’s Ocean Hill neighborhood. The developer sought to rezone portions of two blocks on the south side of Atlantic Avenue at its intersection with Eastern Parkway which includes the proposed development site. The application would facilitate the construction of a new ten-story mixed-use building with ground floor community facility space and about 67 affordable dwelling units. In a concurrent application the developer applied to have the area designated as a Mandatory Inclusionary Housing area. (more…)
