On July 9, the NYC Department of Environmental Protection and the NYC Department of Design and Construction announced a $6 million project to upgrade storm sewer infrastructure in the neighborhood of Richmond, Staten Island. The project began in January 2020, and is scheduled to be completed during the summer of 2021.
City Announces Affordable Housing Tool Amid Gap in Capital Budget
NYC Housing Connect tool intends to make affordable housing searches a more user-friendly experience. On June 16, 2020, New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio announced the launch of “NYC Housing Connect,” an online tool for finding and applying for affordable housing. The new system provides upgrades from its predecessor through a collaborative effort by the Department of Housing Preservation and Development, user-design experts and collected public feedback.
City Secures Affordable Housing for Over 16,000 Households
The City has now produced more than 164,000 units or more than 50 percent of the Mayor’s Housing plan to create 300,000 affordable homes by 2026. On April 3, 2020, Housing Preservation and Development announced the preservation of 16,083 affordable homes for New Yorkers.
Parks Department Begins Playground Reconstruction in Woodside
Upgrades were designed with community input. On February 25, 2020, the Parks Department announced the beginning of a reconstruction project of Hart Playground in Woodside, Queens. Hart Playground is located on the block between Broadway to the north, 37th Avenue to the south, 65th Street to the west and 69th Street to the east.
