On November 29, 2022, officials from the Departments of Parks and Recreation, Design and Construction and NYC Economic Development Corporation joined elected officials and community representatives to celebrate the opening of the new recreational deck at Pier 42 in the Lower East Side. Pier 42 is located off the East River Greenway and is located near the intersection of South Street and Jackson Street. The deck sits on a former industrial maritime site and parking lot. (more…)

The City plans to expand the number of speed traffic cameras through 2021. On September 1, 2020, Mayor Bill de Blasio announced that through a coordinated effort between the Administration, the Department of Transportation (DOT), and the NYPD, speed limits will be reduced by five miles per hours on 25 miles of major streets, adherence to speed limits will be more strictly enforced, and speed cameras have been activated in all 750 school zones Citywide. The applicants made modifications to the building’s facade design in response to Landmarks’ concerns. On March 3, 2020, the Landmarks Preservation Commission held a public hearing on a modified application for a Certificate of Appropriateness to demolish an existing three-story garage and office building at 11 Hubert Street, Manhattan and replace it with a new five-story residential building. The existing building is located on the southwest corner of Hubert and Collister Streets, located within the Tribeca West Historic District.

Council Member Chin was pleased to announce deeper affordability, senior housing and the preservation of two Lower East Side institutions in Go Broome project. On February 27, 2020, the full City Council unanimously approved with a companion resolution, GO Broome LLC’s application to rezone and develop a large-scale, mixed use development on the Lower East Side of Manhattan. The Chinese-American Planning Council and the Gotham Organization Inc. partnered to propose a development with mixed-income, intergenerational housing, commercial retail space and community facility space. The proposed development would be across the street from Essex Crossing and bound between Broome Street to the north, Grand Street to the south, Suffolk Street to the east and Norfolk Street to the west. The application was previously approved by the City Council Committee on Land Use On February 13, 2020, and City Planning on January 21, 2020. The modified design addressed concerns raised at the Landmarks public hearing. On November 12, 2019, the Landmarks Preservation Commission voted to approve a certificate of appropriateness to demolish an existing one and a half-story commercial brick building and construct a new seven-story residential and commercial use building with an elevated mechanical bulkhead at 31 Lispenard Street, Manhattan.
