On August 8, 2018, the City Council approved the Inwood Neighborhood Rezoning amidst resident concerns and disapproval. Mayor Bill de Blasio and Council Member Ydanis Rodriguez celebrated the rezoning approval. The rezoning was developed over the course of three years and affects 59 city blocks in the northern Manhattan neighborhood. The Economic Development Corporation, together with the Department of Housing Preservation and Development, the Department of Citywide Administrative Services, and the Department of Small Business Services, proposed the land use actions to implement a comprehensive rezoning plan in accordance with the goals of the Mayor’s Housing New York: Five-Borough, Ten-Year Plan and began to implement the Inwood NYC Action Plan. EDC seeks developers for Jamaica rezoning district

Economic Development Corporation  •  Request for Proposals  •  Jamaica, Queens

Site will be one of first parcels developed after major rezoning. The New York City Economic Development Corporation issued a request for proposals seeking a developer to purchase a 45,000-square-foot City-owned site in downtown Jamaica and develop it into a mixed-use building with retail space, housing, and parking. A two-story parking garage partially used by the NYPD currently occupies the site, which is part of the Special Downtown Jamaica District from Jamaica Avenue to 93rd Avenue, between 169th and 168th Streets.

The City approved the site for sale and rezoned it to accommodate retail, service and residential uses under the Jamaica Plan, one of the largest rezonings in the City’s history. 4 CityLand 117 (Sept. 15, 2007). (more…)

The request seeks proposals that incorporate a hotel, residential units, and retail space.  On January 19, 2016, the New York Botanical Garden issued a request for proposals to construct a mixed-use development on an “acre-plus parcel” of land that sits at the south-east corner of Webster Avenue and Bedford Park Boulevard, which is directly adjacent to the Botanical Garden’s parking garage.  The development would be part of a larger district-wide transformation that has been underway since 2011.

Developer sought for East Side Sanitation garage site

Economic Development Corporation  •  Request for Proposals  •  Upper East Side, Manhattan

City seeks developer for East River site which will house Sanitation garage and institutional facility. The Economic Development Corporation issued a request for proposals for the redevelopment of a Department of Sanitation-owned lot at 525 East 73rd Street in Manhattan. The roughly 68,000 sq.ft. site occupies the eastern half of a block bounded by East 74th and East 73rd Streets, and FDR Drive and York Avenue. Sanitation in 2008 demolished an existing garage on the site in order to build a 410,000 sq.ft., 150-vehicle facility serving Manhattan Community Districts 6 and 8. The City, however, has indefinitely delayed construction of the facility due to a lack of capital funds. Since 2008, Sanitation has been using three temporary garages in Chelsea, Harlem, and Inwood.

EDC issues RFEI for redevelopment of bakery complex

Economic Development Corporation  •  Request for Expressions of Interest  •  West Harlem, Manhattan

City is in process of reclaiming property after Citarella failed to fully develop site. The City’s Economic Development Corporation issued a request for expressions of interest for the purchase, redevelopment, and rehabilitation of the former Taystee Bakery complex on West 125th and West 126th Street between Amsterdam and Morningside Avenues in West Harlem.

The 134,000 sq.ft. complex includes an occupied through-block building at 461 West 125th Street and five vacant buildings at 426 through 458 West 126th Street. EDC in 2001 selected gourmet grocer Citarella to rehabilitate the buildings. Citarella opened a grocery at the West 125th Street property, but failed to develop the remaining lots. The State Supreme Court in June 2009 awarded title back to EDC. Citarella challenged the decision and remains title holder of the property pending the outcome of the appeal. (more…)
