    On June 13, 2023, the Landmark Preservation Commission voted unanimously to designate the Bronx Opera House, Engine Company 88/Ladder Company 38 Firehouse, and Fire Alarm Telegraph Bureau, Bronx Central Office as individual landmarks. All three buildings located in the Bronx have architectural and historical significance to the borough. (more…)

    Mayor and City Planning Unveil Details for City of Yes for Economic Opportunity Zoning Text Amendment

    The amendment is the second of three proposed zoning text amendments from Mayor Adams designed to address outdated zoning issues. On June 14, 2023, Mayor Eric Adams and Department of City Planning Director and City Planning Commission Chair Dan Garodnick revealed the “City of Yes for Economic Opportunity” zoning text amendment. The proposed amendment is part of Mayor Adams’ City of Yes zoning text amendments to modernize the zoning text and remove burdensome outdated provisions that hinder economic, housing and resiliency growth.     Shabbos Open Streets Are Coming to Staten Island

    The Department of Transportation and the Council of Jewish Organizations of Staten Island partner to launch two new Open Street locations during Shabbos. On May 31, NYC Department of Transportation Commissioner Ydanis Rodriguez announced that the agency will be launching two new Open Street locations in Staten Island. The Open Streets will be located in the Castleton Corners neighborhood, one on Suffolk Avenue, between Queen Street and Harold Street, and the other on Vermont Court, between Gansevoort Boulevard and Suffolk Avenue.     Proposed Council Bill Pushes Delay for Greenhouse Gas Emission Reduction Requirements

    On February 2, 2023, NYC Council Member Vickie Paladino introduced Bill No. 913, which would delay the Greenhouse Gas Emission Reduction Requirements outlined in Local Law 97 of 2019 by seven years. (more…)

    Department of Transportation to Double On-Street Carshare Program

    On March 29, 2023, New York City Department of Transportation Commissioner Ydanis Rodriguez announced a major expansion on the citywide curbside carshare program. The expansion will add 270 new parking spaces to the already-existing 230-space pilot. The program, which began in 2018, is part of an effort by the city to cut greenhouse gas emissions by reducing car ownership and vehicle miles traveled. (more…)
