On September 8, 2023, the Parks Department was joined by elected officials, community members, and menswear Les Deux to celebrate the ribbon cutting of the newly renovated basketball courts in Washington Market Park in Tribeca. Panel welcomed small business owners, residents, and other interested parties for a discussion regarding Tribeca and the neighborhood’s ongoing economic recovery from the COVID-19 pandemic. On March 4th, New York Law School’s Dean Anthony Crowell published an open letter in the Tribeca Citizen that discussed the economic impact of the pandemic on the Tribeca community and NYLS’s commitment to helping the neighborhood navigate its recovery following Covid-19. The modifications to the Hubert Street facade and the ground-floor shutters are more contextual for the historic district. On May 8, 2020, the Landmarks Preservation Commission approved a Certificate of Appropriateness to demolish an existing three-story garage and office building at 11 Hubert Street, Manhattan, and replace it with a new five-story residential building. The new building will be located on the corner of Hubert and Collister Streets within the Tribeca West Historic District. Landmarks originally held a public hearing on the application on December 3rd but the Commissioners had concerns about the proposed design. Modified designs for the building were presented at the March 3rd public hearing, but Landmarks still had some concerns about the building’s front facade and cornice design. The applicants made modifications to the building’s facade design in response to Landmarks’ concerns. On March 3, 2020, the Landmarks Preservation Commission held a public hearing on a modified application for a Certificate of Appropriateness to demolish an existing three-story garage and office building at 11 Hubert Street, Manhattan and replace it with a new five-story residential building. The existing building is located on the southwest corner of Hubert and Collister Streets, located within the Tribeca West Historic District.

The modified design addressed concerns raised at the Landmarks public hearing. On November 12, 2019, the Landmarks Preservation Commission voted to approve a certificate of appropriateness to demolish an existing one and a half-story commercial brick building and construct a new seven-story residential and commercial use building with an elevated mechanical bulkhead at 31 Lispenard Street, Manhattan. At the September 17th public hearing, Landmarks had concerns about the proposed design and asked the applicants to make modifications. For CityLand’s prior coverage, click here.
