On February 28, 2023, the New York City Department of Design and Construction, the Department of Environmental Protection and the Department of Transportation announced the completion of an infrastructure project to rebuild streets and improve water service and drainage across Bayside, Auburndale, and Flushing, Queens. On April 22, 2022, Queens Borough President Donovan Richards Jr. announced the start of Operation Urban Sustainability, a group that will consist of borough and city leaders in sustainability and resiliency who will work together to guide environmental initiatives in Queens. In recent years, Queens has seen devastating flooding, including last year’s Hurricane Ida, where dangerous flash flooding killed thirteen people, mostly in Queens. The announcement is part of a growing response on a borough and citywide level to address environmental concerns and protect New Yorkers. (more…)

Flushing BID receives CPC approval to double in size. On August 28, 2019, the City Planning unanimously approved the Downtown Flushing Business Improvement District’s (“BID”) application. The application by Small Business Services (“SBS”) and officials from the Flushing BID proposed a geographic expansion that is more reflective of the downtown Flushing community and responsive to the community’s growing needs.

City Planning approves an application for a nine-story residential building with 27 permanently affordable units in Flushing, Queens. On September 6, 2017, the City Planning Commission issued a favorable report on a modified land use application for rezoning the area containing 135-01 35th Avenue. The land use application by Stemmax Realty Inc. includes zoning map and zoning text amendments. Stemmax Realty Inc. owns the project site, located at the northeast corner of 35th Avenue and Farrington Place.
Initially, the zoning map amendment was to rezone the M1-1 district, allowing light industrial uses, into a R7A/C2-3 district for mixed-use development. During the ULURP process, the Community Board expressed discontent for the commercial overlay, which was later eliminated. Stemmax Realty Inc. submitted a modified land use application for the zoning map amendment that includes only a R7A residential district. (more…)
