Garage to be part of as-of-right development two blocks from Penn Station. J.D. Carlisle Development Corporation sought Planning Commission approval for a 529-space attended public parking garage to be built as part of a 46-story as-of-right development at 839 Sixth Avenue between West 29th and West 30th Streets. The garage, to be located in the cellar and portions of the ground floor, would be accessible from curb cuts on West 30th and West 29th Streets. The completed development will contain a 287- room hotel, 240 residential units, 9,000 sq.ft. of retail space, and a through-block urban plaza.

The Planning Commission approved the garage, noting the high demand for public parking generated by the commercial and entertainment uses in nearby Herald Square and Madison Square Garden. The Commission noted that the development will replace a 560-space public parking garage that was previously located on the lot. It also stressed that the environmental assessment for the project estimated that the new garage would produce five more vehicle trips during the morning and evening peak hours and six fewer trips during the noon peak hours than the previous garage.
