City Celebrates Moore Park Renovation in Corona

On March 26, 2025, New York City Commissioner Sue Donoghue and other critical stakeholders process of the $4.25 million renovation of the William F. Moore Park located in Corona, Queens. This project was funded by Councilmember Moya and Borough President Richards. In total, the City Parks department will be conducting $34 million worth of park renovation projects in Councilmember Moya’s district. Some of these projects include Caminiti Park, American Triangle, and Park of the Americas.

The goal of the project is to improve accessibility, pedestrian flow, and safety. This will be done through the creation of a new central plaza space and improved lighting and security. The redesign of the park includes restoration of the existing memorial flagpole, installation of a new bocce court, renovation of all ADA accessible entrances and pavements within and around the park. There will be new sightlines, steel fencing and gates, and security lights implemented throughout the park. There will be improved landscaping consisting of new ornamental plantings and raised planters with accent lighting.

In 1929, the park was named to after Wiliam F. Moore, who was reported to be the first neighborhood soldier killed in World War I. The granite base of the memorial flagstaff commemorates Moore.

New York City Parks Commissioner Sue Donoghue said, “For decades, William F. Moore Park has been a beloved community greenspace where New Yorkers can gather for a relaxing game of bocce, take in the fresh air, and connect with their friends and neighbors. With this renovation, we’re giving this park the facelift it deserves, with a brand new bocce court, a beautified central plaza, and improved lighting and amenities throughout. We’re grateful to Councilmember Moya and Borough President Richards for supporting this important work, and we look forward to continuing to invest in Corona’s greenspaces, with over $34 million planned for nearby parks in the coming years.”
