On July 13, 2016, Mayor Bill de Blasio and the New York City Housing Authority announced the completed installation of 504 new lights to improve public safety at Boulevard Houses in East New York Brooklyn. The installation is part of the Mayor’s Action Plan for Neighborhood Safety (MAP) which was initiated in 2014.

HPD and FDNY Announce Coordinated Fire Safety Education Campaign
The initiative includes in-person events and an online marketing campaign. On May 18, 2022, the Department of Housing Preservation and Development (HPD) and the FDNY launched a joint fire safety campaign. This new initiative follows through on Mayor Adams’ March executive order, which called for strengthening the City’s fire safety enforcement and outreach efforts in the wake of the Twin Parks building fire.
NYCHA Receives $24.7 Million HUD Grant to Support Resident Safety and Security Needs

On December 31, 2020, the New York City Housing Authority (NYCHA) announced that the agency received a $24.7 million Emergency Capital Needs Safety and security Grant from the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development to be used to address resident health, safety and security concerns.
DOT Celebrates Livingston Street Redesign for Improved Service

City Council Votes to Approve Additions to DOT Master Street Plan
On October 19, 2023, the City Council voted to approve Int. 1164A-2023. The bill was sponsored by Council Member Selvena Brooks-Powers. This bill seeks to make additions to the Department of Transportation’s Master Street Plan by, in the words of Council Member Brooks-Powers, adding equity through “an investment roadmap to the streets plan law.”
