    OATH Appeals Board overturns Hearing Officer’s earlier determination. On October 14, 2020, in front of 159 West 48th Street in Manhattan, an officer from the Department of Environmental Protection (DEP) detected unreasonable noise from steel street plates permeating from Triumph’s Construction site, an indication that the steel plates were installed improperly.  The officer measured the noise decibels emitting from the steel plates, confirmed it exceeded the mandated limit, and issued Triumph Construction a summons.     City Announces Start of Construction for 103 Affordable Unit Development in Mount Hope

    The $55 million mixed-use development in Mount Hope will house 103 low-income and formerly homeless New Yorkers. On July 20, 2022, NYC Mayor Eric Adams and New York Governor Kathy Hochul announced the beginning of construction on an affordable housing development in Mount Hope, Bronx. The new building will be adjacent to the existing Mount Hope Community Center on Walton Avenue. (more…)

    Design and Construction Announces Completion of Repairs to Shore Road Following Devastating 2018 Storm

    A 2018 nor’easter damaged Shore Road, resulting in a partial collapse of the embankment and damage to the roadway and walkway. On June 23, 2022, the Department of Design and Construction, elected officials, and community members celebrated the completion of a $4.9 million project to stabilize Shore Road, which runs along Little Neck Bay from West Drive to Bayview Avenue in Douglaston, Queens.     Governor Announces Beginning of Construction of New Affordable Housing Development in Wakefield

    The new building will be across the street from another affordable housing development recently approved by the City Planning Commission. On May 25, 2022, Governor Kathy Hochul announced the beginning of construction for a new affordable and supportive housing development in the Wakefield section of the Bronx. The Plains will be located at 4519 White Plains Road between East 239th and East 240th Street. The development team consists of the Doe Fund and Robert Sanborn Development. (more…)

    DOB Releases Second Annual Construction Safety Report

    On March 28, 2022, the Department of Buildings released its next construction safety report for the calendar year 2021. The report highlights and provides analysis for safety trends across the city, provides data regarding incidents and provides descriptions of significant construction incidents, including all nine construction-related fatalities from 2021.  (more…)
