    Governor Announces Over $390 Million for Ten Affordable and Supportive Housing Projects Across the State, Four in NYC

    On January 19, 2023, Governor Kathy Hochul announced that over $390 million was awarded through bonds and subsidies for affordable and supportive housing statewide. With additional private funding, over $600 million is expected to be invested to preserve over 1,600 units in ten projects across the state, including four projects within New York City. The four New York City projects are Bedford Green House Phase II in Fordham Heights in the Bronx; Shepherd Glenmore in East New York, Brooklyn; Crotona Belmont Senior Housing in East Tremont in the Bronx; and River View Towers in Hamilton Heights, Manhattan.  (more…)

    HPD Announces Selection of Plan and Partners for New Affordable Housing Development in Bed-Stuy

    On January 12, 2023, the Department of Housing Preservation and Development announced the selection of a plan and partners for the creation of a new affordable housing development for seniors and low-income families in Bedford-Stuyvesant, Brooklyn. The development, “The Steps at Saratoga,” will also be the first New York City development to build a community-owned local network plant to provide more affordable internet access to local residents and businesses.The team selected includes RiseBoro, IMPACCT Brooklyn and Urbane Development, and designs from minority-owned architecture firm MARVEL.     On December 9, 2022, Mayor Eric Adams and Governor Kathy Hochul announced the start of construction on a new affordable housing development in the Fordham Heights section of the Bronx. The project, Bedford Green House II, will be located at 2880 Jerome Avenue. (more…)

    Mayor, HPD, Project Renewal Open New Affordable Housing with Aquaponics Farming in Bedford Park

    The building’s living green facade helps reduce air pollution and conserve energy. On July 14, 2022, Mayor Eric Adams, joined by the Department of Housing Preservation, the Housing Development Corporation, and non-profit Project Renewal, celebrated the opening of the first phase of Bedford Green House. Bedford Green House is located at 2865 Creston Avenue in the Bedford Park section of the Bronx. (more…)

    Mayor Eric Adams Releases Blueprint for Housing and Homelessness

    Mayor Adams Addresses the Issue of Affordable Housing and Works Towards Building More Affordable Housing. On June 14, 2022, Mayor Eric Adams released Housing Our Neighbors: A Blueprint for Housing and Homelessness, his administration’s plan to address New York City’s affordable housing crisis. The Blueprint discusses making the City a welcoming and homely place where people can stay and grow together as a family by creating housing that is available and affordable for people from all walks of life. The Blueprint speaks to five key housing pillars: (1) Transforming the New York City Housing Authority; (2) Addressing the Homelessness and Housing Instability; (3) Creating and Preserving Affordable Housing; (4) Improving the Health and Safety of New Yorkers; and (5) Reducing the Administrative Burden.
