City Planning Proposes Homeowner-Friendly Zoning Rules for Staten Island Neighborhoods

The changes allow homeowners to bypass the lengthy review process for certain types of projects. On July 2, 2020, the Department of City Planning announced new proposed zoning rules for some Staten Island neighborhoods that make zoning rules more efficient and homeowner-friendly, and that reflect recent advances in environmental science.

Photoplays theater built in 1914. Parks Dept Issues Request for Proposals to Develop Restaurant, Snack Bar, and Boat Rental Concessions at Clove Lakes Park

The restaurant, located in the Boathouse, offers panoramic views of Clove Lake. On August 27, 2021, the Department of Parks and Recreation issued a Request for Proposals for the renovation, operation and maintenance of a restaurant and concessions at the Boathouse in Clove Lakes Park in West Brighton, Staten Island.


John De Groot House

Rare Second Empire style house. On June 28, 2005, Landmarks designated the John DeGroot house, located at 1674 Richmond Terrace in West Brighton, Staten Island. Constructed in 1870, the house retains its historic form, including floor length parlor windows, molded cornices and a mansard roof with hexagon slate shingles. In approving, Landmarks noted the building was a rare example of the Second Empire style, and applauded Linda Eskenas, its owner, for the meticulous maintenance.
