On March 21, 2023, officials from the New York City Department of Housing preservation and Development (HPD), Housing Development Corporation (HDC), and Economic Development Corporation (EDC) joined development partners to celebrate the opening of 1101 and 1089 President Street in Crown Heights, Brooklyn. On January 12, 2023, the Department of Housing Preservation and Development announced the selection of a plan and partners for the creation of a new affordable housing development for seniors and low-income families in Bedford-Stuyvesant, Brooklyn. The development, “The Steps at Saratoga,” will also be the first New York City development to build a community-owned local network plant to provide more affordable internet access to local residents and businesses.The team selected includes RiseBoro, IMPACCT Brooklyn and Urbane Development, and designs from minority-owned architecture firm MARVEL. The former Jehovah’s Witnesses hotel has been converted into nearly 500 affordable and supportive housing units. On November 3, 2022, Mayor Adams, the Department of Housing Preservation and Development (HPD), and the Housing Development Corporation (HDC) joined nonprofit Breaking Ground to celebrate the opening of 90 Sands, a former hotel converted into 491 affordable and supportive housing units in Dumbo, Brooklyn. Mayor Adams announced several achievements over the last fiscal year in the multiagency effort to get New Yorkers into quality affordable homes. On September 15, 2022, Mayor Eric Adams announced that despite challenges like inflation, his administration connected nearly 10,000 families and individuals to stable, affordable homes in Fiscal Year 2022 (FY22). As part of the Mayor’s Housing Blueprint, his administration ensured that housing investments prioritized the experiences of New Yorkers, and that key metrics measure meaningful outcomes for households as well as the number of homes financed.
