    Today, February 16, 2023, Jessica S. Tisch, Commissioner of the Department of Sanitation (DSNY), spoke at the 184th CityLaw Breakfast. Commissioner Tisch spoke on “Getting New York Clean.” Professor Ross Sandler, Director of the Center for New York City Law provided opening remarks.     DOT Announces Expansion of On-Street Carshare Program Following Successful Pilot

    On February 7, 2023, the New York City Department of Transportation (DOT) announced an expansion of a citywide curbside carshare program following a successful five-year pilot program. Carsharing allows participating members to access a vehicle for short-term use by hour or day whose cost includes maintenance. The cars are parked in publicly accessible locations to allow users to reserve vehicles, walk up to the reserved vehicle and use it, and then return it to the same spot. The agency will install new signage for 80 new dedicated curbside parking spaces in the Bronx, Brooklyn and Queens for carshare services.  (more…)

    Dept. of Finance Announces Notice of Property Value Sessions for Each Borough

    The first session is tonight in Brooklyn, with additional sessions to follow. On February 3, 2023, the NYC Department of Finance announced a citywide series of Notice of Property Value (NOPV) information sessions. Property owners received a Notice of Property Value from Finance in January. The Notice of Property Value provides information about market and assessed value and other relevant information so that owners can review the information ahead of the finalization of the assessment roll in May.  (more…)

    Mayor Reveals Task Force Recommendations to Convert Underused Office Space to Housing

    On January 9, 2023, Mayor Eric Adams announced a set of recommendations from the Office Adaptive Reuse Task Force for changes to state laws and city zoning requirements to make it easier for the conversion of underused office space to housing. The COVID-19 pandemic transformed how many companies operate, transitioning to work-from-home or hybrid structures that require less office space, while the city experiences an ongoing affordable housing crisis.     Parks Dept Reports Record-Breaking Mulchfest Season

    On January 17, 2023, the Department of Parks and Recreation announced the results of the most recent Mulchfest, where the agency collected live Christmas trees that were recycled into mulch to be used for mulching plant beds and community gardens across the city. According to the agency, 58,309 trees were collected for this year’s Mulchfest.  (more…)
