Mayor’s affordable housing announcement appears more retrospective than optimistic. City Announces Outposted Therapeutic Housing Units To Be Added to Bellevue and Woodhull Hospitals

Outposted Therapeutic Housing Units at NYC Health + Hospitals/Bellevue and NYC Health + Hospitals/Woodhull will improve access to care for incarcerated individuals with complex medical, mental health, and substance use needs. On November 26, 2019, the Office of the Mayor announced plans to open Therapeutic Housing Units through NYC Health + Hospitals/Correctional Health Services. The units will improve access to care for patients whose clinical conditions require access to specialty and subspecialty care.


De Blasio Administration Changes Affordable Housing Credit Check Rules

New Yorkers applying for affordable apartments now have the choice to avoid credit checks. On August 21, 2019, the Department of Housing Preservation and Development and the Housing Development Corporation announced major changes to Housing Preservation and Development’s affordable housing lottery application. Mayor de Blasio Opposes New Federal Housing Rules Based on Immigration Status

The federal government proposed a rule that would bar mixed-immigration status families from accessing rental subsidies. On July 9, 2019, the de Blasio Administration announced that it submitted formal comments to the federal government in opposition to a proposed rule that would result in eviction of thousands of New Yorkers from federally-assisted housing based on the tenants’ immigration status.


New Highbridge Development Provides Housing for Formerly Homeless Households and Veterans

The new building will provide supportive services and amenities to tenants. On April 16, 2019, the Department of Housing Preservation and Development, Services for the Underserved, and other development partners announced the opening of 1434 Undercliff Avenue, in the Highbridge neighborhood of the Bronx . The new development will serve as supportive housing for formerly homeless and low-income New Yorkers.
