DOB Launches Winter Construction Safety Campaign

The campaign follows four tragic fatalities on construction sites between November and December 2022. On December 28, 2022, Department of Buildings Acting Commissioner Kazimir Vilenchik announced the launch of a new winter construction safety campaign. The safety campaign aims to highlight potential dangers for serious injuries and fatalities on work sites. The campaign follows a series of four tragic instances of worker fatalities on sites in November and December.



Landmarks Votes to Designate Samuel Gompers Industrial High School as Individual Landmark

On December 6, 2022, the Landmarks Preservation Commission voted to designate the Samuel Gompers Industrial High School as an individual landmark. The school, located at 455 Southern Boulevard in the Mott Haven section of the Bronx, was the City’s first vocational high school and is one of the City’s most distinctive public school buildings. Construction Milestone Reached for New 116th Precinct in Southeast Queens

After decades of advocating, the communities of Rosedale, Brookville, Laurelton, and Springfield Gardens in Queens celebrated the topping off on their newly-established police precinct. On August 22, 2022, Mayor Eric Adams joined the NYPD, NYC Department of Design and Construction, and local elected officials to celebrate the installation of the last steel beam, known as the topping off ceremony, for the new 116th Precinct in southeast Queens.
