HPD Celebrates Opening of 375 Affordable Unit Development in Greenpoint

On April 3, 2024, the Department of Housing Preservation and Development, the New York City Housing Development Corporation, elected officials and project partners celebrated the opening of 35 Commercial Street, a new affordable residential development that is part of Greenpoint Landing in Brooklyn. Greenpoint Landing is a 22-acre site along the East River waterfront that is being master-planned and developed by Park Tower Group, and is expected to have 5,500 total residential units once completed. 



City Planning Approves Green Fast Track Rule to Expedite Some Environmentally-Friendly Housing Projects

On March 20, 2024, the City Planning Commission voted to approve the Green Fast Track for Housing rule, a new rule to reduce the cost and time to approve certain modest and eco-friendly buildings by exempting them from review under the State Environmental Quality Review or City Environmental Quality Review laws. State law permits city agencies to have the authority to propose new rules that can allow certain projects to undergo a more streamlined process. 


Landmarks Launches Portico Portal for Application and Document Filings

On March 19, 2024, the New York City Landmarks Preservation Commission (LPC) launched Portico, a web-based permit application portal for owners of landmark buildings applying for permits to work on their designated properties. The new process will make it easier for applicants to file an application, allow multiple users to access the same application, and offer updates from start to finish.


City Launches $50 Million Initiative for Minority-Business Enterprise Developers to Work on Affordable Housing

HPD, HDC, HCR Celebrate Groundbreaking for Stevenson Square Project to Bring 1000 Affordable Units to the Bronx

On March 1, 2024, the New York City Department of Housing Prevention and Development (HPD), New York City Housing Development Corporation (HDC), and the New York State Division of Housing and Community Renewal (HCR) celebrated the groundbreaking for Stevenson Square in the Soundview section of The Bronx. The $1 billion construction project, in conjunction with Camber Property Group, will build affordable homes in furtherance of the ‘Housing Our Neighbors Blueprint’ initiative.
