    HPD Releases Initial Results of 2021 Housing and Vacancy Survey

    On May 17, 2022, the Department of Housing Preservation and Development (HPD) released some initial results of the 2021 New York City Housing and Vacancy Survey. The survey is the official source of the city’s net rental vacancy rate, which is used to determine the continued need for rent stabilization. From its start in 1965, the survey is the longest running housing survey in the United States.  (more…)

    HPD Announces Plans for Affordable Senior Housing in Morrisania

    On May 5, 2022, the Department of Housing PReservation and Development (HPD), the New York City Housing Authority (NYCHA) and the New York City Housing Development Corporation (HDC) announced plans for a new development to provide affordable housing for seniors in the Morrisania section of the Bronx. The Sol on Park development will be located on the corner of St. Paul’s Place and Park Avenue within the Morris II public housing development. Sol on Park’s theme is “housing is health; health is housing,” which incorporates and promotes health lifestyles in the development’s design and features. The development team consists of NRP Group, Foxy Management, and Selfhelp Realty Group, along with Magnusson Architecture and Planning. (more…)

    City and Development Team Break Ground on New Affordable Housing Complex in Fort Greene

    The project site also features 22,000 feet of community space. On April 28, 2022, Mayor Eric Adams and other City officials joined the development team of Hanson Place Church Support Corporation, MDG Design + Construction, City Community Capital, The Richman Group, and other partners to break ground on Hanson Place Community Plaza.     City Planning Hears Application for Mixed-Use Affordable Housing Building in Wakefield

    The building will be in two wings, and features 52 spaces of stacked parking in the cellar. On April 13, 2022, the City Planning Commission held a public hearing for an application for a mixed-use residential and commercial building at 4541 Furman Avenue in the Wakefield section of the Bronx. The rezoning site is on a portion of the block bounded by East 240th Street, a line 300 feet north of East 239th Street to the south, White Plains Road to the west, and Furman Avenue to the east. The project site is currently an underutilized warehouse. Several non-conforming buildings on the block would also be brought into conformance with the rezoning. The rezoning area is adjacent to the elevated No. 2 subway line that runs along White Plains Road. (more…)

    Council Land Use Committee Approves New Building for Shelter and Supportive Housing in East Midtown

    The new building will replace the existing shelter. On April 4, 2022, the City Council Committee on Land Use voted to approve the New Providence Redevelopment Project at 225 East 45th Street in East Midtown. The project consists of a new 21-story building and an emergency shelter that will replace the existing women’s shelter, which is currently retrofitted into two buildings. The proposed building can be constructed as-of-right, but still requires public review as it is a City-owned site. (more…)
