$200 Million for New Boilers and Heating Systems Upgrade For NYCHA Developments

A $200 million investment will be used to replace boilers and upgrade heating systems at 20 NYCHA developments. On January 31, 2018, Mayor de Blasio announced the investment aimed at assisting NYCHA developments experiencing chronic outages. The $200 million investment is part of the Mayor’s investment in NYCHA including $2.1 billion in capital infrastructure and $1.6 billion in operating funds. The upgrades are expected to save NYCHA approximately $5 million per year in energy costs.



Proposed City of Yes for Housing Opportunity Amendment to Help Faith-Based Orgs Build Affordable Housing

On March 22, 2024, Mayor Eric Adams announced details about the plan to assist faith-based organizations and other mission-based nonprofits to build affordable housing citywide. As part of the City of Yes for Housing Opportunity plan, the administration’s third proposed zoning text changes that will remove outdated and arbitrary language from the zoning text that will allow for the creation of more housing.


Mayor, Governor, and Port Authority Agreement to Support Port Authority Bus Terminal Replacement

On March 12, 2024, Mayor Eric Adams, Governor Kathy Hochul, and the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey announced a deal to support the replacement and expansion of the Port Authority Bus Terminal in Midtown. The 73-year-old facility currently serves over 200,000 people on an average weekday, but struggles to meet current needs. The replacement is expected to meet 2040-2050 commuter growth. 


City Selects Two Companies to Redesign Sidewalk Sheds as Part of City’s ‘Get Sheds Down’ Plan

On February 29, 2024, Mayor Eric Adams, Buildings Commissioner Jimmy Oddo, and Mayor’s Office of Contract Services Director Lisa Flores announced the selection of two companies to redesign scaffolding sheds as part of the “Get Sheds Down” plan to improve sidewalk sheds. The companies, Arup US and Practice for Architecture and Urbanism, will work on six new designs to provide contractors with cost-effective options.
