    Lower Speed Limits, Traffic Cameras in School Zones Aim to Reduce Traffic Deaths

    The City plans to expand the number of speed traffic cameras through 2021. On September 1, 2020, Mayor Bill de Blasio announced that through a coordinated effort between the Administration, the Department of Transportation (DOT), and the NYPD, speed limits will be reduced by five miles per hours on 25 miles of major streets, adherence to speed limits will be more strictly enforced, and speed cameras have been activated in all 750 school zones Citywide.     New Precinct Station House With Community Space For South Bronx

    New NYPD facility hopes to bring the community and the police department together. On July 10, 2018, Mayor Bill de Blasio announced the start of construction for the new state-of-the-art facility for the 40th Precinct Station House. The new precinct will be located at 567 East 149th Street, at the corner of St. Anne’s Avenue in the South Bronx. The project will cost $68 million and is projected to be completed in spring 2021. The 40th Precinct Station House was designed by a firm in the Department of Design and Construction’s Design and Construction Excellence program. (more…)

    New Local Law Provides Alternative to Criminal Court

    New York City changed the rules on the enforcement of low-level crimes when, on June 13, 2017, the Council-passed Criminal Justice Reform Act became effective. The new local law adds a new civil summons in lieu of issuing a criminal summons returnable in criminal court. (more…)
