Landmarks Launches Interactive Story Map to Celebrate Black History Month

The story map features highlighted landmarks and historic districts but also presents in-depth historical context about the significance of those sites. On February 9, 2021, the Landmarks Preservation Commission released Preserving Significant Places of Black History, an interactive story map that highlights New York City’s African American history through historic districts and designated landmarks. 


Landmarks Releases Online Timeline in Honor of its 55th Anniversary

The interactive timeline aims to foster civic pride for New Yorkers during the COVID-19 pandemic. On April 16, 2020, the Landmarks Preservation Commission announced the release of an online timeline, Fifty-Five Years of LPC. Fifty-Five Years of LPC was released in honor of Landmarks’ 55th year anniversary. The timeline is interactive and includes excerpts of Landmarks’ history and highlights its notable accomplishments through the decades.


Landmarks Announces Online Exhibit for Seneca Village Artifacts

The exhibited artifacts will help establish what life was really like for middle-class African American families in Seneca Village. Landmarks Calendars Historic District in Hunts Point, Bronx

The houses within the proposed historic district have a consistent architectural style and retain most historical details from the early 20th century. On January 21, 2020, the Landmarks Preservation Commission voted to calendar a proposed historic district in Hunts Point, Bronx. Landmarks Approves New Building Construction in Bedford Stuyvesant/Expanded Stuyvesant Heights HD, Brooklyn

The applicants and Landmarks staff will work together to modify details for the proposed building. On December 3, 2019, the Landmarks Preservation Commission voted to approve a certificate of appropriateness to construct a new three-story residential building on a vacant lot at 324 Macon Street, Brooklyn, located within the Bedford Stuyvesant/Expanded Stuyvesant Heights Historic District.


Landmarks Holds Public Hearing On Gowanus Canal Designations

Gowanus community wants Landmarks to continue designating sites before rezoning. On September 24, 2019, the Landmarks Preservation Commission held a public hearing to designate five buildings in the Gowanus section of Brooklyn as individual landmarks.
