Mayor de Blasio has re-structured the City’s land use administrative hierarchy to further his affordable housing agenda. On July 22, 2014, Mayor Bill de Blasio nominated Margery Perlmutter to serve as Chair of the Board of Standards and Appeals. This was the Mayor’s latest appointment to City land-use positions, all of which will bear heavily on the Mayor’s expansive affordable housing agenda, a ten-year plan designed to preserve some 200,000 units of affordable housing.
HPD Celebrates Opening of 375 Affordable Unit Development in Greenpoint
On April 3, 2024, the Department of Housing Preservation and Development, the New York City Housing Development Corporation, elected officials and project partners celebrated the opening of 35 Commercial Street, a new affordable residential development that is part of Greenpoint Landing in Brooklyn. Greenpoint Landing is a 22-acre site along the East River waterfront that is being master-planned and developed by Park Tower Group, and is expected to have 5,500 total residential units once completed.
Council Votes to Approve Timbale Terrace Project in East Harlem
On March 7, 2024, the City Council voted to approve the Timbale Terrace project in East Harlem. The 19-story mixed-use building, located at 101 East 118th Street, will have 340 affordable units and feature a performance arts center.
