    On February 28, 2023, the Landmarks Preservation Commission held a public hearing for the proposed Linden Street Historic District, located in Bushwick, Brooklyn. The proposed district consists of 32 brick and brownstone row houses located from 3 through 13 Linden Street on the south side of the street and 15 through 55 Linden Street on the north side of the street between Bushwick Avenue and Broadway.     Landmarks Designates the Melrose Parkside Historic District

    Some of the houses within the district represent a unique layout that was developed in Brooklyn. On December 13, 2022, the Landmarks Preservation Commission voted to designate the Melrose Parkside Historic District in Flatbush, Brooklyn. The new historic district consists of 38 single- and two-family row houses on Parkside Avenue between Flatbush and Bedford Avenues, including the properties from 357 to 413 Parkside Avenue on the north and 290 to 386 Parkside Avenue on the south side of the street.     Landmarks Holds Public Hearing for Designation of Samuel Gompers High School in the Bronx

    Multiple people spoke in support and highlighted the building’s art deco features and connection to the city’s industrial history. On November 15, 2022 the Landmarks Preservation Commission held a public hearing for the designation of the Samuel Gompers Industrial High School as an individual landmark. Gompers High School is located at 455 Southern Boulevard in the Mott Haven section of the Bronx.  (more…)

    LPC Holds Public Hearing for Melrose Parkside Historic District

    The “Kinko” duplex houses are a unique product of Brooklyn featuring vertically stacked two-story apartments. On October 18, 2022, the Landmarks Preservation Commission held a public hearing for the proposed Melrose Parkside Historic District in the Prospect Lefferts Gardens neighborhood in Brooklyn. The proposed historic district would consist of 38 houses along both sides of Parkside Avenue between Flatbush Avenue and Bedford Avenue. It includes the properties from 357 to 413 Parkside Avenue on the north side of the street and 290 to 386 Parkside Avenue on the south side of the street.  The houses were developed by William A.A. Brown and Eli H. Bishop & Son and designed by architects Benjamin Driesler and Axel S. Hedman. (more…)

    Landmarks Launches Digital Archive of Designation Photos

    Over 55 years of photos of historic landmarks across New York City are now available on a publicly-accessible digital archive. On August 18, 2022, the Landmarks Preservation Commission announced the launch of its Designation Photo Collection, a searchable digital photo archive of the City’s designated landmarks and historic districts. For the first time, members of the public can search through high-resolution photos of designated buildings and sites throughout the five boroughs. The images, which used to be available by request only, are available for download at no cost. Reproductions of archive photos must credit the New York City Landmarks Preservation Commission as the source. (more…)
