    City Breaks Ground on Orchard Beach Pavilion Project

    On December 13, 2022, agency and elected officials gathered to celebrate the groundbreaking for the Orchard Beach Pavilion restoration project in the Bronx. The pavilion supports the 1.1 mile-long beach, which contains a hexagonal-block promenade, snack bars and food carts, souvenir stands, playgrounds, picnic areas, sports courts, changing areas and showers, and a parking lot.     La Guardia Playground Renovation Brings New Green Space to Brooklyn

    On August 19, 2022, NYC Parks Commissioner Sue Donoghue cut the ribbon on a $6.74 million renovation of La Guardia Playground, at 252 S 4th St., in South Williamsburg. She was joined by Brooklyn Borough President Antonio Reynoso, Council Member Jennifer Gutiérrez, and community members and representatives from the North Brooklyn Parks Alliance and El Puente. The new developments are funded by NYC Parks’ Community Parks Initiative (CPI), which targets high-density, low-income spaces for green features and recreational spaces. (more…)

    City Connects 10,000 Households to Stable, Affordable Housing in Fiscal Year 2022

    Mayor Adams announced several achievements over the last fiscal year in the multiagency effort to get New Yorkers into quality affordable homes. On September 15, 2022, Mayor Eric Adams announced that despite challenges like inflation, his administration connected nearly 10,000 families and individuals to stable, affordable homes in Fiscal Year 2022 (FY22). As part of the Mayor’s Housing Blueprint, his administration ensured that housing investments prioritized the experiences of New Yorkers, and that key metrics measure meaningful outcomes for households as well as the number of homes financed.     Parks Department Shares 20 Percent Increase in Pool Attendance as Summer Season Closes

    The agency also piloted a new water safety program for 250 children. On September 8, 2022, the Parks Department shared statistics, updates and accomplishments to celebrate the end of the summer 2022 beach and pool season. The City’s eight public beaches and 53 outdoor pools close for the season this Sunday, September 11th.  (more…)

    Landmarks Considers Converting Former Catholic Orphanage into a Jewish Yeshiva

    NYC Landmarks Preservation Commission heard a proposal to substantially renovate and convert Angel Guardian Home, an individual landmark, into a Yeshiva. On August 2, 2022, the NYC Landmarks Preservation Commission held a public hearing for an application that would substantially renovate the Angel Guardian Home located at 6301 12th Avenue in Dyker Heights, Brooklyn. The proposal intends to convert Angel Guardian Home into a Yeshiva for the Gur International Chassidic Sect.
