    DDC Report Reflects Faster Construction Due to COVID Changes In Procurement Process

    The Department of Design and Construction has been able to complete capital projects quicker while still adhering to budgets and utilizing Minority and Women-owned Business Enterprise while under COVID-19 contracting rules. On March 30, 2021, the New York City Department of Design and Construction released a report on how construction under the less restrictive procurement and contracting rules put in place due to the pandemic has helped to complete City capital projects much quicker than normal. The report, entitled DDC 2020: Delivering Innovation In A Challenging Year, explains how the Department was able to use alternative construction methods normally not available. (more…)

    Park in Staten Island Receives $5.5 Million Upgrade

    The $5.5 million project renovates athletic fields at Bloomindale Park in Staten Island. On March 11, 2021, the New York City Department of Parks and Recreation announced the completion of athletic field upgrades in Bloomingdale Park in Prince’s Bay, Staten Island. The improvements include a brand new synthetic turf multi-purpose field as well as the renovation of a turf soccer field. (more…)

    NYCHA Announces $261 Million in Completed Renovations for Three Developments in the Bronx

    The private and non-profit partnership allows for more funding while maintaining resident public housing rights. On February 17, 2021, the New York City Housing Authority (NYCHA) announced the completion of upgrades in three NYCHA developments across the Bronx. The upgrades at the Baychester, Murphy, and Betances Houses impact 54 buildings and 1,810 units and are the home to an estimated 4,300 people. The renovations cost $261 million.  (more…)

    NYCHA Pest and Waste Management Action Plan Approved

    The new Pest and Waste Management plan will better coordinate and handle pest and waste incidents by targeting the root causes of infestations and waste incidents. On January 26, 2021, the Federal Monitor approved the New York City Housing Authority’s Pest and Waste Management Action Plan. This plans approval follows two years of improvements made by the City Housing Authority. (more…)

    $30 Million Investment in New Brooklyn Water Mains

    Nearly seven miles of new water mains will be added to improve water distribution. On September 16, 2020, the New York City Departments of Environmental Protection and Design and Construction announced the new upgrades to the Gravesend and Sheepshead Bay areas. The $30 million project includes replacing nearly seven miles of century-old water mains, 108 fire hydrants, and installing 17 new fire hydrants. The project is scheduled to be completed by Fall 2021 and covers the areas along Avenue S, between Coney Island and Ocean Avenues, as well as portions of East 12th St., Homecrest Avenue, East 13th St. – East 19th St., Avenue T, Avenue U, Avenue V, and Gravesend Neck Road.
