    Low-Cost Broadband Access Expanded for 10,000 Bronx NYCHA Residents

    The expansion adds on to 30,000 residents who already received low-cost broadband. On July 27, 2021, Mayor Bill de Blasio announced an agreement with New York City-based internet service provider Bloc Power to bring high-speed internet access to 10,000 NYCHA residents across five Bronx NYCHA developments. The five developments include Melrose, East 152 Street-Courtlandt Avenue, Forest, Morris I, and Morris II. (more…)

    NYCHA Launches New Team to Handle Lead Removal for Residences with Young Children

    The program helps target apartments with lead paint that young children frequent. On July 14, 2021, the New York City Housing Authority (NYCHA) launched the Team for Enhanced Management Planning and Outreach (TEMPO). The TEMPO program is dedicated to outreach, inspection and remediation of lead-based paint in NYCHA apartments where a child under the age of 6 lives or routinely spends ten or more hours a week.     NYCHA Launches Online Annual Certification Portal Redesign

    The new portal provides step-by-step instructions and easier navigation. On June 1, 2021, the New York City Housing Authority (NYCHA) launched the redesign of its online annual recertification portal for residents. NYCHA residents and Section 8 voucher holders are required to recertify their income, assets, expenses and family composition on an annual basis.  (more…)

    NYCHA Announces $261 Million in Completed Renovations for Three Developments in the Bronx

    The private and non-profit partnership allows for more funding while maintaining resident public housing rights. On February 17, 2021, the New York City Housing Authority (NYCHA) announced the completion of upgrades in three NYCHA developments across the Bronx. The upgrades at the Baychester, Murphy, and Betances Houses impact 54 buildings and 1,810 units and are the home to an estimated 4,300 people. The renovations cost $261 million.  (more…)

    NYCHA Pest and Waste Management Action Plan Approved

    The new Pest and Waste Management plan will better coordinate and handle pest and waste incidents by targeting the root causes of infestations and waste incidents. On January 26, 2021, the Federal Monitor approved the New York City Housing Authority’s Pest and Waste Management Action Plan. This plans approval follows two years of improvements made by the City Housing Authority. (more…)
