    Mayor Adams Makes Two New Appointments to Rent Guidelines Board

    On March 31, 2022, Mayor Eric Adams announced the appointment of two new members of the Rent Guidelines Board. The Rent Guidelines Board is responsible for establishing rent adjustments for apartments subject to the City’s rent stabilization law. Approximately one million apartments and homes are subject to this law. (more…)

    Mayor Announces Appointments to New York City Districting Commission

    The Commission will help with the redesign of the City Council district boundaries. On March 7, 2022, Mayor Eric Adams announced his seven appointees to the New York City Districting Commission. The Commission is responsible for redrawing council district boundaries as required every ten years by the City Charter following the national census. The redistricting helps the City Council reflect changes in demographics and population.  (more…)

    Building owner not liable for cellar fall

    Pedestrian fell through cellar doors on sidewalk on West 46th Street.  On November 29, 2017, John Harrington was walking on the sidewalk in front of a building located at 45 West 46th Street in Manhattan when he fell through the cellar doors and suffered injuries. (more…)

    GUEST COMMENTARY: City Turns Back on Rational Zoning

    Zoning is under attack in New York City. Not here or there, in this location or that, but the concept itself. This has been the long game of the city’s real estate interests, and after a decade of raids those interests have launched a full assault on several fronts.     Landmarks Designates Holyrood Church, Educational Building

    Both buildings were landmarked as part of the agency’s Equity Framework. On May 18, 2021, the Landmarks Preservation Commission voted to unanimously designate Holyrood Episcopal Church-Iglesia Santa Cruz in Washington Heights and the Educational Building in Greenwich Village as the City’s newest landmarks. The two buildings were landmarked as part of Landmarks’ new Equity Framework, which highlights the agency’s efforts for designations that represent the city’s diverse and inclusive history. (more…)
