The six buildings are up for consideration in honor of the 50th anniversary of the Stonewall Riots. Louise Carroll Appointed Commissioner of HPD

Carroll previously worked with HPD on housing incentives. On May 2, 2019, Mayor Bill de Blasio announced Louise Carroll as the new Commissioner of the Department of Housing Preservation and Development. Carroll, whose career in public service includes prior work with HPD to protect tenants, will work on preservation to avoid tenant displacement and work with the Mayor’s Office to Protect Tenants.


Public Health: Tobacco, Sugars, Trans Fats and Salt

In the twentieth century, primary causes of death and disability in America changed from communicable diseases to chronic diseases. This shift was in part due to the successes of public health as better sanitary conditions and immunizations reduced the burden of communicable diseases.  The shift, however, was also due to changes in lifestyle and longer life expectancies that caused the rates of chronic diseases to increase.


HPD Announces Plans for Two Mixed-Use Affordable Housing Developments on City-Owned Sites in Clinton/Hell’s Kitchen

The new buildings will provide affordable housing, space for businesses, and social services from partnering non-profits in the Clinton/Hell’s Kitchen community. City Planning Announces Anita Laremont As Executive Director

Current General Counsel is appointed Executive Director. On August 22, 2018, the Department of City Planning announced the appointment of Anita Laremont as its new Executive Director. Laremont is currently the Department’s General Counsel and Chief Analytical Officer. Laremont will succeed outgoing Executive Director Purnima Kapur. She will begin in her new role on September 4 and will continue to serve as the General Counsel until a replacement is named.


Additions Proposed For Expansion Of Frick Collection

After 2014 plan was withdrawn in face of public outcry, museum presented Selldorf-designed proposal to create more space for exhibitions, conservators, and educational programs.
