    [UPDATE]: Council Approves Harlem Church Redevelopment with Modifications

    Council makes modifications to include only MIH Option One and a partnership with JOENYC to fund repairs and renovations for existing affordable units in La Hermosa’s district. On December 19, 2019, the City Council voted to approve a land use application that will facilitate the construction of a new 30-story mixed-use residential and community facility building. The new building will replace the existing three-story La Hermosa Church building at 5 West 110th Street in Harlem, Manhattan. The Council voted on the application with modifications made at the December 3 Zoning and Franchises Subcommittee vote.

    Mayor Announces New Piece of Manhattan Waterfront Greenway Near East Midtown

    The 1.5 acre stretch of open space, to be completed by 2022, is part of the Manhattan Waterfront Greenway initiative to create continuous loop around perimeter of Manhattan. On November 22, 2019, Mayor Bill de Blasio and top agency officials celebrated the commencement of construction of a new waterfront public open space, the East Midtown Greenway, which will stretch between East 53rd Street to East 61st Street. The East Midtown Greenway project is a piece of a larger project, Manhattan Waterfront Greenway. The Manhattan Greenway Project’s goal is to create accessible public waterfront space and safe bicycle pathways along the outer edge of Manhattan. (more…)

    DDC Announces $15.5M in Restoration of Montefiore Square in West Harlem

    The project will provide space for community events and green markets. On October 23, 2019, the New York City Department of Design and Construction announced a joint effort to restore and expand Montefiore Square into what is now Hamilton Place between Broadway and West 138th Street in West Harlem, Manhattan.     City Planning Approves Modified Plans for Redevelopment of Harlem Church

    The proposed building would house the redeveloped La Hermosa Church, community facilities, and residential units. On October 15, 2019, the City Planning Commission voted to approve an application to develop a new 29-story tower-on-a-base mixed-use building at 5 West 110th Street in Harlem, Manhattan. The site is currently occupied by La Hermosa Church, a three-story brick throughway building, and the church’s parking lot. To facilitate the new 226,000 square feet development, the applicants would propose to demolish the existing church building. The project would redevelop La Hermosa Church and build a music hall, music school, and approximately 160 housing units. The Church is the project applicant and site owner.

    HPD Opens Proposals for Two East Harlem Sites

    The RFP was developed using community input through the East Harlem Neighborhood Planning Process and visioning workshops. On August 8, 2019, the Department of Housing Preservation and Development (HPD) Commissioner, Louise Carroll, announced the release of a competitive Request for Proposals (RFP) regarding the redevelopment of the East Harlem Multi-Service Center site at 413 East 120th Street in Manhattan and the NYPD’s 25th Precinct parking lot on the east side of Park Avenue between East 118th and East 119th Streets in Manhattan. The redevelopment will include affordable housing, retail, and community services. (more…)
