New Permanent Space for Bronx Children’s Museum Opens

The Bronx was previously the only borough not to have a permanent children’s museum. On November 16, 2022, the Departments of Design and Construction, Parks and Recreation, and Cultural Affairs, elected officials and community members celebrated the opening of the permanent space for the Bronx Children’s Museum. The museum is now located at the Bronx Terminal Market at 725 Exterior Street in Mill Pond Park. 


“Streets for Recovery” Report Details Success of Outdoor Dining on Open Streets

The report uses data aggregated by Department of Finance to highlight the economic benefits of open streets laws. On October 25, 2022, Department of Transportation (DOT) Commissioner Ydanis Rodriguez announced the release of Streets for Recovery, a report on Open Streets policy developed in collaboration with Bloomberg Associates. This first-in-the-nation report uses Department of Finance data to highlight the economic benefits of Open Streets during the height of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Mayor Adams Appoints Laura Kavanagh FDNY Commissioner

Kavanagh is the first woman to serve as Commissioner of the Fire Department. On October 27, 2022, Mayor Eric Adams swore in Laura Kavanagh as commissioner of the New York City Fire Department (FDNY). With years of prior experience at the FDNY, most recently as acting fire commissioner, Kavanagh will oversee the department’s 17,000 employees and $2 billion budget.


La Guardia Playground Renovation Brings New Green Space to Brooklyn

On August 19, 2022, NYC Parks Commissioner Sue Donoghue cut the ribbon on a $6.74 million renovation of La Guardia Playground, at 252 S 4th St., in South Williamsburg. She was joined by Brooklyn Borough President Antonio Reynoso, Council Member Jennifer Gutiérrez, and community members and representatives from the North Brooklyn Parks Alliance and El Puente.
