Mayor’s Office Expands Free Legal Help to Fight Evictions

The expansion provides free legal assistance for tenants in five additional ZIP codes. On December 13, 2019, the Mayor’s Office announced an expansion of the Right to Counsel program that provides free legal assistance to New Yorkers fighting eviction. The Right to Counsel program, implemented by a ZIP code by ZIP code approach, will be expanded to five more ZIP codes across the City.

Staten Island Building Owner Fined $71,900 for Illegal Conversion

Owner converted a two-family house to a four-family. On May 27, 2009, the Department of Buildings issued four notices of violation to Nashat Estafanous. Estafanous owned a residential property at 25 Simonson Avenue in Staten Island, which he converted, without permits, from a two-family residence to a four-family residence by fitting the attic and newly-constructed garage for occupancy. HPD, HDC, HCR Celebrate Groundbreaking for Stevenson Square Project to Bring 1000 Affordable Units to the Bronx

On March 1, 2024, the New York City Department of Housing Prevention and Development (HPD), New York City Housing Development Corporation (HDC), and the New York State Division of Housing and Community Renewal (HCR) celebrated the groundbreaking for Stevenson Square in the Soundview section of The Bronx. The $1 billion construction project, in conjunction with Camber Property Group, will build affordable homes in furtherance of the ‘Housing Our Neighbors Blueprint’ initiative.
