    Mayor de Blasio Opposes New Federal Housing Rules Based on Immigration Status

    The federal government proposed a rule that would bar mixed-immigration status families from accessing rental subsidies. On July 9, 2019, the de Blasio Administration announced that it submitted formal comments to the federal government in opposition to a proposed rule that would result in eviction of thousands of New Yorkers from federally-assisted housing based on the tenants’ immigration status.     NYCHA, City, and Federal Government Will Come Together To Fix Public Housing

    Consent decree seeks to create a common game plan to funding to ameliorate problems at  the New York City Housing Authority. Public housing has been under the public eye in the last few years due to allegations of mismanagement from its leadership. On June 11, 2018, Mayor Bill de Blasio held a press conference on the future of public housing in New York City. The Mayor announced that the City agreed to a settlement, memorialized in a consent decree, with the Manhattan United States Attorney to provide funds and allow federal monitoring for the improvement of the safety and quality of life of NYCHA residents.     Elected Officials Announce Construction of New Affordable Housing in Fordham Heights

    On December 9, 2022, Mayor Eric Adams and Governor Kathy Hochul announced the start of construction on a new affordable housing development in the Fordham Heights section of the Bronx. The project, Bedford Green House II, will be located at 2880 Jerome Avenue. (more…)

    Mayor, HPD, Project Renewal Open New Affordable Housing with Aquaponics Farming in Bedford Park

    The building’s living green facade helps reduce air pollution and conserve energy. On July 14, 2022, Mayor Eric Adams, joined by the Department of Housing Preservation, the Housing Development Corporation, and non-profit Project Renewal, celebrated the opening of the first phase of Bedford Green House. Bedford Green House is located at 2865 Creston Avenue in the Bedford Park section of the Bronx. (more…)

    Governor Signs Legislation Establishing Public Housing Preservation Trust for NYCHA

    The trust allows NYCHA to access new streams of revenue to help fund the renovations of 25,000 apartments. On Thursday, June 16th, 2022, Governor Kathy Hochul signed legislation which created the New York City Public Housing Preservation Trust. The Trust will give the New York City Housing Authority (NYCHA) access to new streams of revenue and will allow for necessary repairs to 25,000 apartments in NYCHA developments. These repairs have been deferred due to a lack of funds, often attributed to cutbacks in contributions from the federal budget. (more…)
