DOT to Expand E-Scooter Pilot Program to More Areas of East Bronx

Over 480,000 trips have been taken since the program launched last August. On March 24, 2022, the NYC Department of Transportation (DOT) announced that the E-Scooter pilot program which brought e-scooters to parts of the East Bronx last year will expand the pilot program to more neighborhoods across the East Bronx. Through the program, e-scooters from Lime, Bird and Veo are available to rent as an alternative form of transportation.


DOT Set to Launch E-Scooter Pilot Program in the East Bronx

Over two years, the program will serve an area of over 500,000 residents in the East Bronx. On August 17, 2021, the Department of Transportation’s E-Scooter Pilot program will launch in the East Bronx. Through the program, E-Scooter companies Bird, Lime, and Veo will bring 3,000 e-scooters in the first phase of the program, with an additional 3,000 scooters to be rolled out in Phase 2 of the program next year. 


Council Approves Bronx Metro-North Station Area Plan

On August 15, 2024, New York City Mayor Eric Adams, in collaboration with critical stakeholders celebrated New York City Council’s approval of the Bronx Metro-North Station Area Plan. City Planning Commission Approves Bronx Metro-North Station Area Plan

On June 26, 2024, the City Planning Commission voted to approve the Bronx Metro-North Station Area plan. Four new Metro-North stations will be constructed along the East Bronx in Morris Park, Hunts Point, Co-op City, and Parkchester/Van Nest. The plan complements the construction of these stations by adding more housing, job opportunities, and enhanced public spaces around the Morris Park and Parkchester/Van Nest stations.


DOT Announces Next Series of Cross Bronx Expressway Workshops

On May 22, 2024, Department of Transportation Commissioner Ydanis Rodriguez, announced the next series of public workshops to re-envision the Cross Bronx Expressway corridor, specifically the segment stretching from the Harlem River to Westchester Creek. Governor Announces Funding for Almost 1,100 Affordable Homes Statewide, Including Brooklyn and the Bronx

On April 8, 2024, Governor Kathy Hochul announced $412 million in bonds and subsidies to create and preserve nearly 1,100 affordable homes statewide, including four projects in the Bronx and Brooklyn. The awards are part of the Governor’s five-year $25 billion housing plan to preserve or create 100,000 affordable homes statewide with 10,000 supportive homes.
