    City Planning Approves Application for Supportive and Affordable Housing in East New York

    The new building will have 43 apartments for formerly homeless individuals. On January 9, 2019, the City Planning Commission voted unanimously to approve an application for the development of a seven-story residential building at 461 Alabama Avenue in the Brownsville section of Brooklyn. The City Planning Commission held a public hearing for the application on December 5, 2018. The applicant team consisted of the Department of Housing Preservation and Development, CB Emmanuel Realty LLC, Services for the Underserved and Newman Design. (more…)

    City Planning Considers Application for 157 Affordable Apartments in the Bronx

    The building will have 24 apartments for formerly homeless individuals and families. On December 5, 2018, the City Planning Commission held a public hearing for an application for the construction of an eleven-story, low residential building, at 656 East 176th Street in the Bronx. The Department of Housing Preservation and Development (HPD) and Proxy Estate, Inc. brought the application, requesting a zoning change and disposition of city-owned property to facilitate the project.     Council Subcommittee Hears Proposal for Two Mixed-Use Towers in Long Island City

    Community members voiced concerns about infrastructure and affordability for the proposed addition of almost 500 units. On September 17, 2018, the City Council Subcommittee on Zoning and Franchises heard an application by the Department of Housing Preservation and Development (HPD) and the Department of Citywide Administrative Services (DCAS) for a proposed two-building mixed-use, mixed-income project on Jackson Avenue in Long Island City, Queens. The developers, Lions Group NYC, and Fetner Properties, also applied for special permits to modify building setback requirements and to create a parking garage. (more…)

    City Planning Approves 11-Story Middle-Income Building in Bedford-Stuyvesant; City Council Next to Consider

    The City Planning Commission approved a new 11-story mixed-use building with 103 units in Bedford-Stuyvesant neighborhood. On July 26, 2017, the New York City Planning Commission issued a favorable report on an application for multiple land use actions to facilitate the development of an 11-story mixed-use building consisting of 71,417 square feet of residential floor area and 13,236 square feet of retail floor area. The applicant, the Department of Housing Preservation and Development, proposed that the site be designated an Urban Development Action Area Project (UDAAP) and the disposition of city-owned land to the developer.     City Planning Approves African Burial Ground Memorial and Large Mixed-Use Complex

    The City Planning Commission approved the redevelopment of a city block in East Harlem to include a Burial Ground Memorial, 730 residential units and over 300,000 square feet of commercial space. On July 26, 2017, the City Planning Commission issued a favorable report on an application for multiple land use actions to facilitate the East 126th Street Bus Depot Project in East Harlem. The applicants—the Department of Citywide Administrative Services and the Economic Development Corporation—sought to develop a full city block into an African Burial Ground Memorial and mixed-use development. The application included requests for a zoning map amendment, a zoning text amendment, a City Map amendment and the disposition of city-owned property. (more…)
