    $9 Million Invested to Upgrade Morrison Avenue Plaza in the Bronx

    The upgrade is scheduled to be completed in winter 2021. On October 30, 2020, the NYC Department of Transportation, NYC Department of Environmental Protection, and the NYC Department of Design and Construction announced the beginning of a $9 million project to expand and beautify Morrison Avenue Plaza located at the southeast corner of Morrison Avenue and Westchester Avenue in the Soundview neighborhood in the Bronx.     Parks Dept Completes $3.8 Million Upgrades to Norwood Playground in the Bronx

    New upgrades make the park safer, more fun, and accessible to all New Yorkers. On November 6, 2020, NYC Parks Commissioner Mitchell J. Silver, Bronx Borough President Ruben Diaz Jr., City Council Member Andrew Cohen, State Assembly Member Nathalia Fernandez, State Assembly Member Jeffrey Dinowitz, Bronx Community Board 7 parks Chair Barbara Stronczer, and representatives from the Friends of Mosholu Parkland unveiled the reconstructed Kossuth Playground located along Mosholu Parkway North and Kossuth Avenue in the Northwest Bronx.     Major Bus and Bike Improvements Increase Mobility in the Bronx

    The changes affect four bus lines connecting ten major subway lines in the Bronx and Manhattan. On October 9, 2020, Mayor de Blasio announced major bus and bike improvements in the Bronx furthering the Better Buses Restart plan and keeping the City on track with de Blasio’s recovery agenda.     NYCHA and HPD Announce Construction of Affordable Housing Co-Operative Development in the Bronx

    Seventy-two co-op units will be available for purchase. On October 2, 2020, the New York City Housing Authority (NYCHA) and the New York City Department of Housing Preservation and Development (HPD) announced that Lemle & Wolff Companies and Avante Contracting Corp will develop a 100 percent affordable homeownership housing development at NYCHA’s Soundview campus in the Bronx. The buildings will be located across the street to the north of Soundview Park along Lacombe Avenue at the cross street of Lacombe and Rosedale Avenue. (more…)

    Parks Department and Elected Officials Celebrate Reopening of Parque de los Niños in the Bronx

    Reconstruction project cost $4.35 million and features a new track and ballfields. On August 13, 2019, the Department of Parks and Recreation announced the reopening of Parque de los Ninos, located on the corner of Morrison Avenue and Watson Avenue in the Soundview section of the Bronx. Parks Commissioner Mitchell J. Silver, FAICP, was joined by Bronx Borough President Ruben Diaz Jr., New York State Assembly Member Marcos A. Crespo, New York City Council Member Ruben Diaz Sr, members of Bronx Community Board 9 and local residents to celebrate the reopening of the playground. (more…)
