    New Permanent Space for Bronx Children’s Museum Opens

    The Bronx was previously the only borough not to have a permanent children’s museum. On November 16, 2022, the Departments of Design and Construction, Parks and Recreation, and Cultural Affairs, elected officials and community members celebrated the opening of the permanent space for the Bronx Children’s Museum. The museum is now located at the Bronx Terminal Market at 725 Exterior Street in Mill Pond Park.  (more…)

    HPD Celebrates Opening of New Affordable Building with 275 Units in East New York

    The building includes a community center with a variety of programs to promote economic growth and youth development. On October 4, 2022, the Department of Housing Preservation and Development (HPD) joined other city agencies, MHANY Management, Urban Builders Collaborative and Cypress Hills Local Development Corporation to celebrate the opening of Chestnut Commons Apartments in East New York, Brooklyn. Chestnut Commons Apartments, located at 110 Dinsmore Place, is a new 275-permanently affordable unit building.  (more…)

    Jefferson Market Public Library Completes Necessary Upgrades

    On July 14, 2022, a ribbon-cutting ceremony was hosted celebrating the completion of a $10 million project for vital upgrades to the Jefferson Market Public Library located in Greenwich Village, Lower Manhattan. This project began in 2019, is part of a $600 million project for capital improvements across the New York Public Library system and was led by the NYC Department of Design and Construction in conjunction with NSP Enterprises, Inc. and was designed by WXY Architecture + Urban Design.     LPC Celebrates LGBTQ+ Landmarks with Interactive Story Map

    Released in honor of pride month, the story map features significant places like the Stonewall Inn. On June 16, 2022, the Landmarks Preservation Commission announced the launch of “Pride: Celebrating LGBTQ+ Landmarks”. This interactive story map highlights individual landmarks designated by LPC for their significant contributions to LGBTQ+ cultural and civil rights movements. (more…)

    HPD Announces Plans for Affordable Senior Housing in Morrisania

    On May 5, 2022, the Department of Housing PReservation and Development (HPD), the New York City Housing Authority (NYCHA) and the New York City Housing Development Corporation (HDC) announced plans for a new development to provide affordable housing for seniors in the Morrisania section of the Bronx. The Sol on Park development will be located on the corner of St. Paul’s Place and Park Avenue within the Morris II public housing development. Sol on Park’s theme is “housing is health; health is housing,” which incorporates and promotes health lifestyles in the development’s design and features. The development team consists of NRP Group, Foxy Management, and Selfhelp Realty Group, along with Magnusson Architecture and Planning. (more…)
