Christopher Columbus is in trouble. Political pressure to remove Columbus monuments most recently dates from 1992 during the preparations for the 500th anniversary of Columbus’s first voyage. The movement to remove the monuments accelerated in the summer of 2020 following the murder of George Floyd.

On July 31, 2018, Landmarks voted to designate the former AT&T Headquarters Building, at 550 Madison Avenue, an individual City landmark. Mayor Announces “Green Fast Track” Proposal to Expedite Environmental Quality Review Process for Some Home Construction
On December 11, 2023, Mayor Eric Adams announced the “Green Fast Track” proposal to accelerate the construction of small- and medium-sized homes throughout the City by streamlining the environmental quality review process. The proposed rule is part of the Mayor’s “Get Stuff Built” plan to create more housing.
EDC Announces Public-Private Partnership to Build Film Studio Campus at Pier 94
On August 29, 2023, the New York City Economic Development Corporation announced a public-private partnership with Vornado Realty Trust, Hudson Pacific Properties, and Blackstone to build a studio campus at Pier 94 near Hell’s Kitchen in Manhattan. The Sunset Pier 94 Studios project will create a film and production studio as well as public amenities for Hudson River Park.
