The building will feature supportive housing with in-building staff to provide services. On January 30, 2019, the City Planning Commission voted to approve an application for the development of a 15 story mixed-use building in the Mott Haven section of the Bronx. The building will have approximately 100 residential units and will be located at 472-474 Willis Avenue between East 146th and East 147th Streets. The new building will have 43 apartments for formerly homeless individuals. On January 9, 2019, the City Planning Commission voted unanimously to approve an application for the development of a seven-story residential building at 461 Alabama Avenue in the Brownsville section of Brooklyn. The City Planning Commission held a public hearing for the application on December 5, 2018. The applicant team consisted of the Department of Housing Preservation and Development, CB Emmanuel Realty LLC, Services for the Underserved and Newman Design. (more…)
The report closes in on housing needs for low- and extremely low-income households and proposes four initiatives on how to provide affordable housing for these households. On November 28, 2018, New York City Comptroller Scott M. Stringer released its NYC for All: The Housing We Need report showing the scope of the City’s affordable housing crisis. According to the report, the city’s population grew nearly half a million between 2009 and 2017 and city employment increased by over 800,000 jobs. While the city has experienced population and job growth, the growth of residential units has failed to keep the pace with a net increase of only 100,000 residential units for the 500,000 people. The new affordable housing is part of the de Blasio Administration’s efforts to end cluster site program. On December 4, 2018, Mayor Bill de Blasio announced the progress made by the City for the acquisition and conversion of nearly 500 cluster units across 17 buildings into permanently affordable housing. The City’s plan is part of the administration’s initiative to address the homelessness crisis in New York City and is projected to provide housing for over 1,000 New Yorkers. (more…)

The mixed-use development will include affordable units, deployable food barriers, and retail frontage. On November 1, 2018, New York City’s Department of Housing Preservation and Development (HPD) announced that the start of construction of a block-sized development on Surf Avenue in Coney Island that will provide below-market-rate housing, retail, and office space to the community. The mixed-use development is projected to cost $253.9 million and will offer 446 affordable units, ranging from studios to two-bedrooms, to formerly homeless and low-income locals. The complex will have two other structures that will add approximately 500 more units of affordable housing, totaling nearly 1,000 units. The development is being led by HPD along with the Housing Development Corporation, BFC Partners, L+M Development Partners, and Taconic Investment Partners. (more…)
