The light displays offer local options for those who can’t or choose not to see typically more crowded options like the Rockefeller Center tree. On December 11, 2020, the Parks Department announced that this holiday season, New Yorkers can enjoy local light displays at Parks administrative buildings and parks around the city. This season, Parks will host over 80 lighting displays across the City.

Some of the noted sites include: the Moshulu Parkway Tree Lighting Display in the Bronx, the Central Park Seasonal Holiday Display in Manhattan, the Historic Richmond Town Tree Lighting in Staten Island, the MacDonald Park Menorah Lighting Display in Queens and at Litchfield Villa in Prospect Park, Brooklyn. A complete list of sites can be found here

NYC Parks Commissioner Mitchell J. Silver, FAICP stated, “It is a time-honored tradition here at Parks to light our greenspaces and buildings up for the holidays. A tradition we derive great pride from and one that we are committed to continuing even in these most unprecedented times. We know that throughout this challenging year, people have looked to our parks for refuge and recreation, and we want to continue inspiring joy by spreading holiday cheer. We hope that our lights can help illuminate the hearts of all New Yorkers as we celebrate the holidays and what they mean to us all.”

In addition, the Parks Department is hosting a virtual Wreath Interpretations exhibition that shows nearly 40 handmade adaptations of the traditional holiday wreath. To view the slideshow click here.
