    City Planning Hears Application for Supportive Housing Development in East Harlem

    On July 12, 2023, the City Planning Commission held a public hearing for a new supportive housing development at 244 East 106th Street in East Harlem. The site is currently a vacant lot on the south side of East 106th Street between Second and Third Avenues. The building is part of the ShareNYC pilot program where the city is exploring the creation and implementation of shared housing. Shared housing consists of housing units with two or more independently occupied rooms with a common kitchen and bathrooms.  (more…)

    Mayor Adams Announces New NYCHA Appointments

    On July 6, 2023, Mayor Eric Adams announced new appointments to the leadership for the New York City Housing Authority (NYCHA). Jamie Rubin will serve as the new chair of the NYCHA board, and Lisa Bova-Hiatt will be the new CEO.  (more…)

    Landmarks Designates Three Buildings Tied to Jazz History

    On June 27, 2023, the Landmarks Preservation Commission voted to designate three buildings connected to jazz history. The buildings are 105-19 37th Avenue in Corona, Queens, 935 St. Nicholas Avenue in Washington Heights, and the Hotel Cecil & Minton’s Playhouse building at 206 West 118th Street in Harlem.  (more…)

    Landmarks Votes to Designate Bronx Opera House, FDNY Buildings as Individual Landmarks

    On June 13, 2023, the Landmark Preservation Commission voted unanimously to designate the Bronx Opera House, Engine Company 88/Ladder Company 38 Firehouse, and Fire Alarm Telegraph Bureau, Bronx Central Office as individual landmarks. All three buildings located in the Bronx have architectural and historical significance to the borough. (more…)

Image Credit: HPD/Services for the Underserved.On May 24, 2023, the Department of Housing Preservation and Development joined project partners Services for the Underserved and Bronx Pro Group LLC to celebrate a housewarming for the newly opened Jerome Court redevelopment. Located at 1769 Jerome Avenue in the Morris Heights section of the Bronx, the space was transformed from a two-story single-use occupancy building to a 16-story mixed use building with supportive and affordable housing.
