Development corporation constructed buildings in Brooklyn Bridge Park that blocked view of the Brooklyn Bridge from the Brooklyn Promenade. In 2005 Brooklyn Bridge Park Development Corporation and Empire State Development Corporation adopted a general project plan for Brooklyn Bridge Park that included the development of a hotel, restaurant, and residential units upland of Brooklyn’s Pier 1. Community members demanded during the initial environmental review that the new buildings not block the view of the Brooklyn Bridge from the Brooklyn Promenade. The final environmental impact statement limited the northern building to a height of 100 feet and the southern building to a height of 55 feet. (more…)

Addition of manufacturing and creative space supports City goals to provide more middle-class jobs. On June 13, 2018, Deputy Mayor for Housing and Economic Development, Alicia Glen, together with the Brooklyn Navy Yards and Steiner NYC, announced the beginning of construction at 399 Sands Street. The project will add manufacturing and creative office space at the 300-acre Brooklyn Navy Yard, an urban manufacturing center, and is expected to bring manufacturing jobs to the area. The project is also part of Steiner’s Admirals Row Development, a six-acre site at the southwest corner of the Navy Yard being developed for commercial and industrial use. (more…)
Licensed family daycare center operated in dwelling with residential C of O. Diversity Learning Center, located on the first floor of a three-story building at 193 Sumpter Street in Brooklyn, has operated for 10 years providing day care and educational services. On December 9, 2014, a Buildings officer determined that the operation of Diversity Learning Center conflicted, the certificate of occupancy for the premises. The officer issued a summons charging the owner, Moses Otote, with violating the New York City Administration Code Section 28-119.3.2, which prohibits any change in occupancy or use inconsistent with that allowed by the issued certification of occupancy. Schneiderman announces guilty verdict for Brooklyn landlord who harassed rent-stabilized tenants. On June 20, 2017, New York State Attorney General Eric T. Schneiderman announced the guilty verdict of Brooklyn landlord Daniel Melamed on three counts of Unlawful Eviction of rent-stabilized tenants. Melamed is scheduled to be sentenced on September 13, 2017 and could face up to one year in jail. (more…)
