    DCP Launches 2022 Edition of City of Neighborhoods Map

    On November 16, 2022, the Department of City Planning released the 2022 edition of “New York City: A City of Neighborhoods” map. The map provides key demographic and topographical details about the city, and outlines community districts and the neighborhoods that are included within those districts.     Speed of Subway Trains Challenged

    Subway trains at the Spring Street station twice struck passengers lying on the tracks on separate occasions. How fast should subway trains be moving when they enter a station? The faster the subway trains go, the more people the trains can carry and the quicker people will get to their destinations. Even a slowdown of a few seconds per train can slow the entire system. Speed is so important to the mission of the Transit Authority that the Transit Authority has committed billions of dollars to upgrades which will allow for increases in train speed and carrying capacity. On the other hand, safety is also a paramount priority, and as speeds increase so do stopping distances. (more…)

    Mayor Announces Holiday Open Street, Pedestrian Space Around Rockefeller Center and Small Business Support Campaigns

    The pedestrian space around Rockefeller Center returns to help accommodate holiday crowds. On November 22, 2022, Mayor Eric Adams announced the City’s largest holiday season specific open street and the return of the pedestrianized area around Rockefeller Center for the holiday season, along with two new ad campaigns to support local and small businesses.     Mayor Celebrates Opening of “90 Sands” Affordable Housing Development

    The former Jehovah’s Witnesses hotel has been converted into nearly 500 affordable and supportive housing units. On November 3, 2022, Mayor Adams, the Department of Housing Preservation and Development (HPD), and the Housing Development Corporation (HDC) joined nonprofit Breaking Ground to celebrate the opening of 90 Sands, a former hotel converted into 491 affordable and supportive housing units in Dumbo, Brooklyn.
