HPD Announces Plans for Affordable Senior Housing in Morrisania

On May 5, 2022, the Department of Housing PReservation and Development (HPD), the New York City Housing Authority (NYCHA) and the New York City Housing Development Corporation (HDC) announced plans for a new development to provide affordable housing for seniors in the Morrisania section of the Bronx. Mayor Signs Bill to Ban Gas Usage in New Buildings

The bill bans the use of gas in new buildings by the end of 2027. On December 22, 2021, Mayor Bill de Blasio signed Int. 2317-A into law, which requires the phasing out of the combustion of fossil fuels in new buildings. The law is the first of its kind for a large cold-weather city like New York. The bill was sponsored by Council Member Alicka Ampry-Samuel.


City Releases Master Plan for City Streets

On December 1, 2021, Mayor Bill de Blasio, Council Speaker Corey Johnson and the Department of Transportation (DOT) Commissioner Hank Gutman announced the release of the New York City Streets Plan. The plan’s purpose is to help guide road design and infrastructure for the next five years.



Brooklyn Bridge Bike Path Completed, Open for Use

The new bike lane is the first reconfiguration of the Brooklyn Bridge since 1950. On September 14, 2021, the new two-way protected bike lane on the Brooklyn Bridge was completed and open for use. The new bike lane provides protection for cyclists and pedestrians, who now have exclusive access to the promenade where the bike lane previously was located.
