Mayor de Blasio Appoints Tom Foley as Acting DDC Commissioner
Foley is a 23-year veteran of the agency. On October 28, 2021, Mayor Bill de Blasio appointed Tom Foley as the Acting Commissioner for the Department of Design and Construction (DDC). The appointment comes as Commissioner Jamie Torres-Springer, who had been appointed in March, prepares to depart on November 12th to become the President of Construction and Development at the MTA.

The previously undeveloped plot of land has been transformed into a community greenspace through a $20.3 million transformation project. The $2 million transformation project of Redwood Playground was one of 800 projects completed under Commissioner Silver’s leadership. New York City Department of Parks and Recreation Queens Borough Commissioner Michael Dockett unveiled the new renovations and improvements to Redwood Playground in Cunningham Park, located in Fresh Meadows, Queens.
Jamie Torres-Springer Appointed New Commissioner of Design and Construction
Torres-Springer, the former First Deputy Commissioner of the department, will be succeeding Senior Advisor for Recovery and outgoing Commissioner Lorraine Grillo. On March 23, 2021, Mayor Bill de Blasio appointed Jamie Torres-Springer as Commissioner of the New York City Department of Design and Construction. Torres-Springer will be succeeding Lorraine Grillo. Former Commissioner Grillo left the position earlier in March to serve as the City’s Senior Advisor for Recovery.
