    Mayor Celebrates Opening of “90 Sands” Affordable Housing Development

    The former Jehovah’s Witnesses hotel has been converted into nearly 500 affordable and supportive housing units. On November 3, 2022, Mayor Adams, the Department of Housing Preservation and Development (HPD), and the Housing Development Corporation (HDC) joined nonprofit Breaking Ground to celebrate the opening of 90 Sands, a former hotel converted into 491 affordable and supportive housing units in Dumbo, Brooklyn.     City Connects 10,000 Households to Stable, Affordable Housing in Fiscal Year 2022

    Mayor Adams announced several achievements over the last fiscal year in the multiagency effort to get New Yorkers into quality affordable homes. On September 15, 2022, Mayor Eric Adams announced that despite challenges like inflation, his administration connected nearly 10,000 families and individuals to stable, affordable homes in Fiscal Year 2022 (FY22). As part of the Mayor’s Housing Blueprint, his administration ensured that housing investments prioritized the experiences of New Yorkers, and that key metrics measure meaningful outcomes for households as well as the number of homes financed.     City Seeks Proposals for Climate Resilient Affordable Housing Project

    The South Bronx development will include approximately 80 new affordable homes and a building designed to withstand climate change. On August 18, 2022, the Department of Housing Preservation and Development (HPD) began accepting proposals to build an 100 percent affordable, climate resilient housing project in Mott Haven, Bronx. Located on an undeveloped stretch of 351 Powers Avenue, the finished project will include approximately 80 new affordable homes. (more…)

    Mayor, HPD, Project Renewal Open New Affordable Housing with Aquaponics Farming in Bedford Park

    The building’s living green facade helps reduce air pollution and conserve energy. On July 14, 2022, Mayor Eric Adams, joined by the Department of Housing Preservation, the Housing Development Corporation, and non-profit Project Renewal, celebrated the opening of the first phase of Bedford Green House. Bedford Green House is located at 2865 Creston Avenue in the Bedford Park section of the Bronx. (more…)

    City Planning Hears Application for Affordable Housing for Seniors and New Venue for Church in Soundview

    The new building will enable the church to provide more services to the local community. On June 8, 2022, the City Planning Commission held a public hearing for an application for a mixed use residential and community facility building at 1810 Randall Avenue in the Soundview section of the Bronx. The building, Casa de la Fe, will also hold a church. The applicants are the church, the Second Pentecostal Church of God La Hermosa, and Vertical Community Development Group LLC. The proposed zoning site consists of three tax lots on the northern portion of the block with Randall Avenue to the north, Beach Avenue to the west, Taylor Avenue to the east, and the southern border 100 feet into the block. The proposed zoning site consists of unused one-story commercial buildings, the existing church, and a parking lot.  (more…)
