    Revisions would see delegation of some work, including certain rear yard and roof top additions, to staff for review and approval. On March 27, 2018, the Landmarks Preservation Commission held a public hearing on a proposed overhaul of the agency’s rules, found in Title 63 of the Rules of the City of New York.     Designations of Two Individual Landmarks Overturned by Council

    Booth House

    Landmarks’ designations of two residential buildings on City Island rejected due to objections of local council member. On March 12, 2018, the City Council’s Subcommittee on Landmarks, Public Siting & Maritime Uses voted against upholding the individual landmark designations of two residential buildings on City Island in the Bronx. The buildings are the Samuel H. and Mary T. Booth House at 30 Centre Street, and the Captain John H. Stafford House, at 95 Pell Place. Both houses were unanimously designated by the Landmarks Preservation Commission on November 28, 2017. (more…)

    New Development To Include Elevator Access At Broad Street Subway Station

    Mixed-use building seeks to add two new elevators to lower Manhattan subway station. On March 14, 2018, the City Planning Commission held a public hearing for a special permit for a proposed new mixed-use development at 45 Broad Street in the Financial District in Manhattan in connection with improvements to the Broad Street Station and the Wall Street Station. Applicants, Madison 45 Broad Development LLC, plan to build a 65-story condominium building in what is currently an empty lot on the east side of Broad Street between Exchange Place and Beaver Street.     Department of Investigation Faults NYCHA and NYPD Actions

    DOI faulted the failure of NYCHA and the NYPD to enforce lease conditions against criminals and criminal activities at NYCHA projects. In 1996, the NYPD and New York City Housing Authority entered into a Memorandum of Understanding designed to prevent crime and create a safer environment for residents of NYCHA’s public housing developments. NYPD agreed to provide NYCHA with all arrest and complaint reports concerning serious criminal activity committed by NYCHA residents within NYCHA developments. In exchange for this information, NYCHA agreed to ensure that criminal offenders who posed a threat to safety would be removed from public housing. The agreement intended to monitor criminal activity to improve the safety and quality of life for NYCHA residents. (more…)

    City Planning Hears Plans For New Development In Area Lacking Residential Space

    New industrial modern loft building for Bronx area scarce with residential options. On March 14, 2018, the City Planning Commission held a hearing on the Willow Avenue Rezoning application. The applicant, Markland 745 LLC, seeks to develop a mixed-use, mostly residential building on Willow Avenue between East 133rd and East 134th Street in the Port Morris section of the Bronx. The property is currently occupied by a three-story commercial office building and a single-story warehouse. The current buildings will be demolished to make way for the new development. The application includes a rezoning from a manufacturing district to a mixed residential, manufacturing, and commercial district zone and mapping of a mandatory inclusionary housing (MIH) area for the property.
