On June 1, 2020, the Center for New York City Law, the Center for Real Estate Studies and the Impact Center for Public Interest Law at New York Law School hosted a virtual CLE. The topic was “Housing Law and Policy in the Time of COVID-19.” The CLE was led by Professor Andrew Scherer. Anthony Crowell, Dean and President of New York Law School gave opening remarks.
Professor Scherer discussed the development of landlord-tenant law and how it has served as a response to crises, including public health crises. He discussed the importance of Right to Counsel in keeping tenants in their homes. Professor Scherer also discussed the current state of affairs, including the eviction moratorium and the closing of the courts. Professor Scherer also talked about COVID-related issues, including termination of leases, temporary rentals, and rent and affordability. He also discussed the Cancel Rent movement, rent relief and related state and federal legislation.
The CLE had over 1,000 RSVPS.
