On March 2, 2022, the Historic Districts Council announced that Frampton Tolbert will be the next Executive Director of the Historic Districts Council. The Historic Districts Council advocates for the preservation of New York City’s historic neighborhoods and buildings. The appointment of Tolbert follows the departure of Simeon Bankoff, the previous Executive Director, last September, after 20 years at the helm.
Frampton Tolbert previously served as the Historic Districts Council’s Deputy Director from 2005 to 2014. He graduated with a Bachelors in Historic Preservation from the University of Mary Washington. He previously held communications and development positions at the Brooklyn Museum and Phillips Collection. Most recently, Tolbert has served as the Deputy Director of the Center for Urban Pedagogy. He was previously a President of the Victorian Society of New York.
Tolbert will begin his position on April 11th.
Tolbert stated, “I am thrilled to return to HDC to lead the organization forward as I strongly believe that preservation is crucial to the future success of New York. I will be an advocate for all communities, working with a diverse coalition of stakeholders to preserve our irreplaceable architectural, historical, and cultural heritage in an equitable and sustainable way. Preservation needs to be part of making the city work for everyone.”
