On Thursday, November 20, 2013 the Center for New York City Law at New York Law School hosted a City Law Breakfast, featuring Patrick J. Foye, Executive Director of the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey, as the guest speaker. Mr. Foye’s talk was entitled, “Infrastructure and Public/Private Partnerships: ‘Bridging’ the Gap.”
Mr. Foye was introduced by Ross Sandler, Professor of Law and Director of the Center for NYC Law, and Anthony Crowell, Dean and President of New York Law School. Mr. Foye spoke on the benefits of public and private partnerships, as well as the need to streamline the process for projects that are environmentally friendly to promote economic growth and job creation. On May 25, 2020, George Floyd was killed by a Police Officer while in custody of the Minneapolis Police Department. Floyd’s death has garnered a national response and has sparked groups of individuals all across the nation to gather in streets, parks and open spaces to protest systemic racism, police brutality and the injustices felt by the black community. Floyd’s death and several other similar events have reinvigorated the discussion on law enforcement policy, criminal justice reform and the right to public assembly. (more…)

Four great New Yorkers were honored with Civic Fame Awards at the CityLaw Breakfast on May 26, 2016. The Civic Fame Award recognizes persons who have made significant contributions to the civic life of New York City. In a happy and joyous ceremony, each awardee was individually presented with a specially created certificate bearing the striking image of the 25-foot-high, gilded figure of Civic Fame which stands on top of the Municipal Building.
